About the Wanda Diamond League
Founded in 2010, the Wanda Diamond League has become the flagship annual series in global track and field. It was established to bring together the world’s best athletes in a season-long competition, replacing the former Golden League and expanding its international reach.
The event is organized under the auspices of World Athletics (formerly the IAAF), and it aims to promote the sport, enhance its global visibility, and provide a platform for athletes to compete at the highest level outside of major championships like the Olympics and World Championships.
The series is renowned for its innovation, including the introduction of the Diamond Trophy, given to the overall champions in each discipline. This trophy is highly coveted and is seen as a mark of consistent excellence throughout the season, making it one of the most prestigious honors in the sport.
Each meeting features a mix of track and field disciplines, such as sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdles, jumps, throws, and combined events. The format encourages head-to-head competition among elite athletes, fostering memorable rivalries and world-class performances.
In addition to top-tier competition, the Wanda Diamond League is known for its vibrant atmosphere, often held in packed stadiums with energetic crowds. The series has played a significant role in the careers of legendary athletes, offering them a stage to set world records and achieve personal milestones. It has also helped discover and elevate new talent, ensuring the continued evolution of athletics.
Sponsorship by Wanda Group, a leading global conglomerate, has enabled further growth and visibility for the series, facilitating professional management, expanded media coverage, and greater prize money. The league’s extensive broadcast reach and digital presence have made it a staple of the sporting calendar for fans worldwide.
The Wanda Diamond League is the premier global one-day meeting series in athletics. The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
Athletes in 32 disciplines compete for points at 14 series meetings, with the most successful qualifying for the Wanda Diamond League Final. The 2027 season begins in Doha on May 7 and ends at the series final in Zurich on August 25-26.
