As some of the world's best half marathon runners toe the start line of the 2022 N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon this Sunday, the 27th of March, they know one thing which the past elite fields never knew; that a world record is possible on this course.
Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich broke the women’s world record by 29 seconds after running 1:04.02 last year to win the women's race. However, the record would only last for about 4 months before Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw lowered it further to 1:03.44, and then Letesenbet Gedey followed that with the current record of 1:02.52.
Fierce competition will be witnessed in less than 24 hours from now at the N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon as Hellen Obiri of Kenya leads a fast start list with six women with the PB of sub 67:00. Daniel Mateiko, also of Kenya, leads an Incredible field with five men who are faster than the current Course Record of 59:35.
Both Course Records could go down. Below are the start lists
